- Antivirus: Avira AntiVir Personal
The free version is considerably better than any other free anti-virus program and generally much better than any of the other commerial programs. You get an advertisement (just click ok and it goes away) every few days asking if you want to upgrade but otherwise I've yet to have a problem with it. - Registry/File cleaner: CCleaner
While this can probably be classed as an 'advanced' tool it is certainly very useful and effective particularly after uninstalling programs that still leave traces behind. - Defragmenting: Defraggler
From the same people as CCleaner this is a stand alone program that does a much better job in a shorter time than the standard windows defragmenting tool.
